PB&A is serving as EOR for the temporary Shoring of Excavation for their client, Skanska/Traylor/Shea, for four underground stations that will comprise the Purple Line Extension, providing a high-speed alternative for commuters traveling between downtown Los Angeles, the Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills and Westwood.
The 100 ft. excavation for the first of the Stations, La Brea and Wilshire was 98% complete in December of 2017. The other three Stations, all having a depth of 80-100 feet, along Wilshire at Fairfax, Western and La Cienega, have all begun construction with the completion of the Purple Line scheduled for 2023. The design of the shoring was complicated by the fact that Wilshire Blvd. needed to remain a live thoroughfare over the excavations. PB&A designed the concrete decking panels that will keep the roadway open to vehicular and pedestrian traffic while the excavation takes place beneath.
