In 2011 PB&A was retained by AECOM to design a Permanent, Value Engineered, Retaining Wall for their bid on the 805/Carrol Canyon project in San Diego. The retaining walls were needed on either side of the Direct Access Road which would be constructed beneath the live 805 / I5 Freeways. The Walls, designed by TY Lin for the Contract Documents would cost 20 million dollars more than constructing the innovative Soil Nail Walls that PB&A designed. The rest is history. PB&A’s design allowed AECOM a much reduced budget with which to bid the project and as a result AECOM was the successful bidder. PB&A was hired to complete their design of the walls which have recently been completed. We have fantastic photos of the project!
